MEDIA RELEASE: The Clayton is Open

CALGARY (August 8, 2019) – Today, Jayman BUILT (Jayman), in partnership with the RESOLVE Campaign, Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) and HomeSpace Society (HomeSpace) celebrate the grand opening of The Clayton. This new building gains its name from Alvin Clayton (A.C.) Westman, Jayman’s founder. The Clayton, located in Bowness, will provide permanent affordable housing with on-site supports provided by Calgary Alpha House Society, to 30 formerly homeless Calgarians. The Clayton (7732 Bowness Rd NW) is the RESOLVE Campaign’s seventh new permanent supportive housing building to open for CHF and HomeSpace, addressing the critical shortage of permanent affordable housing with on-site supports in Calgary. The Clayton was made possible through an unprecedented joint commitment of the Government of Canada through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the Government of Alberta to provide affordable housing with on-site support services. This project was also made possible through the generous commitment of philanthropic donors, including The Clayton’s visionary builder, Jayman BUILT, and the financial support of the City of Calgary.CHF was one of RESOLVE’s nine partners and raised capital through the Campaign to support its housing collaborator HomeSpace Society in the development of a series of permanent supportive housing buildings for vulnerable Calgarians. HomeSpace Society leads the development of the properties and owns and manages affordable and permanent supportive housing throughout Calgary - including buildings like The Clayton. For more information on the project, visit https://homespace.org/properties/bowness/QUOTES: Diana Krecsy, President and CEO, Calgary Homeless Foundation“This collaboration between government, the Calgary Homeless Foundation, HomeSpace Society, Jayman BUILT, the RESOLVE Campaign and Calgary Alpha House Society, is a demonstration that homelessness can end when we intentionally choose to work together. This building will provide a stable place of belonging from which the 30 future tenants will build a better future.”Jay Westman, Chairman and CEO, Jayman BUILT“Jayman BUILT has been building homes in Calgary communities for 39 years. We appreciate the importance of having a place to call home and are fiercely committed to ending homelessness in our city. The RESOLVE Campaign inspired collaboration between 11 builders, and together we contributed a combined gift of $15.4 million. By its sunset, the Campaign raised over $74 million, enough to provide 1,850 Calgarians with the key to a home and the support they need to thrive. The entire Jayman team has shown their commitment to this cause through the construction of The Clayton, providing 30 new units for Calgarians who have experienced homelessness.”Bernadette Majdell, CEO, HomeSpace Society“HomeSpace is proud to partner with Jayman BUILT through the RESOLVE Campaign and Calgary Homeless Foundation on our seventh new permanent supportive housing development. Through this collaboration, we are able to offer more affordable housing units with supports to the Calgary community. Our residents will have the opportunity to rebuild their lives with the dignity of a new home.”Kathy Christiansen, Executive Director, Calgary Alpha House Society“We are excited to be providing on-site supports for another permanent supportive housing program with Calgary Homeless Foundation and Homespace. We believe everyone deserves to have a safe, stable home and that a home is a place where people can work on other aspects of their lives to create a healthier future. We look forward to becoming a part of the vibrant community of Bowness.”-30-About Calgary Alpha House SocietyCalgary Alpha House Society has a long history of providing safe and caring environments for individuals whose lives are affected by alcohol and other drug dependencies. For more information, visit www.jayman.com.About the RESOLVE CampaignRESOLVE was a first-of-its-kind collaboration of nine Partner agencies, working together with a common goal — to create affordable rental housing with support services for up to 3,000 vulnerable and homeless Calgarians. The nine respected and established agencies partnered with government, business and community leaders, all resolving to make Calgary a better home – for everyone. At the conclusion of the Campaign’s active fundraising period on March 31, 2018, enough capital was raised to provide 1,850 homeless and vulnerable Calgarians with a key to an affordable rental home with the supports they need to thrive. While the Campaign itself has sunset, the Partners will continue to open doors to additional urgently needed affordable homes in our city. The tangible difference the Campaign has made in our city will be seen for years to come, as more buildings are constructed and Calgarians move from a place of homelessness and instability to the safety and security of a home.
