This 25 unit lodging-house style apartment complex was built in 1956 and fully renovated by HomeSpace in 2022 opening in April 2022. It is home to Calgary youth struggling with chronic homelessness with programming and supports provided by our partners at Trellis. Renovations to Boreal Place were possible largely thanks to funding from the Rapid Housing Initiative that invested  $800,000 towards turning the vacant and aging lodging house into a safe, and beautiful new home for youth in need. The City of Calgary is a strong supporter of Boreal Place, selling the property to HomeSpace for $900,000 below market value, waiving development fees, and committing over $50 thousand dollars towards pre-development costs. Due to this important collaboration, Calgary youth in need of safe, affordable housing with supports will have a chance to escape the cycle of homelessness.
