Housing is not only the right thing to do, it also makes economic sense. When we invest in housing with supports, we:

  • Save approximately $34,000/person per year on public systems such as police, justice and health, compared to leaving them in homelessness. In Calgary alone, savings are estimated at $105 million annually for taxpayers.
  • Boost the local economy by creating jobs in the private sector, and increasing the purchasing power of residents.
  • Protect our healthcare system. Vulnerable Calgarians such as those experiencing homelessness are at greater risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19.
